Jovian Fusion is a Canadian fusion jazz band that plays music for musicians. Formed in 2021, the four-piece fuses crazy guitar licks with different modes and experimental sounds, making you drift away into space and bring you back to earth just in time to climax.

"Love this sound - it's so refreshing to hear such well thought out music. There aren't a lot of bands playing this style these days, which is a shame, but it makes you stand out."

Currently, the band is working on a new album. For updates, follow Jovian Fusion on all social and streaming platforms @jovianfusion and visit jovianfusion.com

THE BAND

NELSON

LEAD GUITAR,
COMPOSER, PRODUCER

Toronto-based Fusion Jazz guitarist, Nelson Jovian, sets the whammy bar when it comes to composing and performing. From growing up  in humble beginnings in rural Canada to gaining an international perspective in sound, one can clearly travel on a musical journey with Nelson and his exotic melodic lines from Arabia to Flamenco; Indian classical modes and scales, to classical jazz, and naturally, rock n’roll.

Nelson has had the privilege to study from many international musicians including Juno and Gemini-award nominee Composer, Arranger, and Producer, Richard Fortin (Who has worked with David Gilmour, Liona Boyd, Al Dimeola, and Steve Morse of Deep Purple); Brazilian Fusion Jazz guitarist, Egberto Gismonti; Brazilian artist, Carlito Palmeira Melo; the late great Brazilian percussionist, Nana Vasconcelos; as well as the late great latin jazz guitarist and composer, Laurindo Almeida.

Nelson’s interests and inspiration stems from the unwavering skill of legends John McLaughlin, Paco de Lucia, Al Dimeola, Chick Corea, and Alan Holdsworth, to name a few.

Nelson’s 30+ year musical career spanned performing around the globe and working with highly-skilled and classically-trained musicians.

Presently, Nelson Jovian is working on a few Fusion Jazz projects with the Jovian Fusion band in Toronto.

PAIGE

KEYBOARD

A true music aficionada and fan of fusion jazz, it's only fitting that Paige joined the Jovian Fusion band.

Her eclectic musical interests range from classic rock to metal, and techno to jazz and country, inspiring lyrical verses and melodic tunes.

Her aptitude for reading music stemmed from the ability to pick up any instrument and play, whilst quickly learning fingerings and scales.

However, as she matured, classic French composer Erik Satie brought her to the piano whereas she has been playing ever since. She is influenced by Chick Corea, Tom Coster, Jan Hammer and Herbie Hancock,

Paige is now writing lyrics with Juno and Gemini-award nominee Composer, Richard Fortin, and is, of course, playing with the Jovian Fusion band.

ERIKA

BASS

Erika Marton Freitas locks into the groove with an instant attitude as Jovian Fusion’s newest bass player. Starting her musical journey at the age of 5, Erika began her foundation as a classically trained pianist, eventually learning advanced rudiments. She then switched to the electric bass when she was 11 years old and has been expanding her range ever since.

Her inspirations stem from Bach to Victor Wooten and John Deacon of Queen to Jaco Pastorius. Throughout her young musical career, Erika has performed in New York and Chicago as well as Toronto’s infamous venues such as the Rockpile and the Edge.

Erika is currently enrolled in the Honours PNB Music Cognition Specialization program at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario and aspires to become a Music Therapist.
